Meet Jill, an online teacher and travel blogger

1. Please introduce yourself.

Hi, my name is Jill Greising-Murschel and I am currently living in an RV traveling around the USA with my husband and 4 children working on our travel blog, www.letstravelfamily.com. Our kids are ages 9, 7, 5 and 2 and I have been homeschooling them since they were born. Traveling has been a passion of mine since before I can remember, and now that I am able to work from home, I can travel anywhere!

2. When did you start working from home? What inspired the change?

I began working from home in March, 2017. I wanted a way to earn income but to be able to travel with my family and not have to leave them to work each day.

3. What different ways have you tried to earn an income working from home? What do you do now to earn money?

I used to work as an independent birth doula. I met with moms and dads before prenatally, then I was on call during their ‘guess time’ and would attend their birth once they called me. I had to leave my family to support another family.

I LOVED what I did, but I did not love leaving my family each time. So I decided to start looking into other ways to make income online so that I could be with my kids all the time. That’s when I learned about teaching English as a Second Language to children in China.

Our family began to travel full time and I was earning some nice money on the side while my husband worked full time remotely for a company based out of Paris, France each day. I then began to learn more about blogging and taking it seriously. I decided that I need to take a few courses and invest in my education if I was going to make any money blogging. That’s when I stumbled upon Sharon’s Build Blog Freedom course and signed right up!

4. How long did it take you to earn enough money to quit your day job?

I have only ever needed to make enough to have the ‘extra’ cash for the family. So starting with VIPKID I began making enough within 1 month. Now starting a blog, I am still at the beginning stages but I have all the confidence with Sharon’s guidance and training that I will be making money by next summer off my blog!

5. How much do you earn in an average month now?

I make $300-700 US dollars per month teaching with VIPKID. It all depends on what hours I open in my schedule, therefore, how many classes I teach!

6. What tips would you give yourself if you could go back in time to when you first started working at home?

Do it, don’t wait! My kids are worth spending more quality time with, not away from. Yet, I still really needed and wanted to have a successful career for myself. It gives me not only income, but a sense of self-purpose outside of being a wife and mom.

7. What has been the secret to your success?

Once I decide to go for something, I go all in. I get as much information as I can and keep moving forward!

8. What mistakes have you made along the way?

I have scheduled myself for too many hours of teaching, which did not leave me enough hours to work on my blog. There is a fine line to walk when you are starting a business that is not yet earning you income, but you must put the hours and hard work in or you will never make any money.

9. What is the best part about working from home?

The best part about working from home for me is that ‘home’ is wherever my husband and kids are. We travel full time right now, and I can be traveling and seeing many parts of the USA with my family while working in the morning hours each day!

10. What is the worst part about working from home?

The worst part about working from home is trying to schedule in uninterrupted time to get work done. The kiddos can be disruptive, so I have learned that I need to wake up early each day to get several hours of work in before the kids wake up.

11. What advice do you have for anyone starting out?

Find what works best for you and your family. Reach out to someone who has done what you are starting and get tips from him or her. Having a support system is so very helpful!
